Bob Greenlee: Boulder County — management by taxation? – Boulder Daily Camera

Boulder County’s jail is bursting at the seams, … County roads are in extreme disrepair … These are just two examples that require management attention… In response, the county commissioners have determined it’s time to ask voters to tax themselves to buy more open space. Plus they want funds for a bunch of new and ill-defined “sustainability” initiatives … What more could citizens ask for than this kind of professional expertise and sound management?…When the topic of forced annexations comes up, people in Gunbarrel and other places appropriately become anxious.

Barbara Padden: Tiny houses cart before the horse?

I was shocked to read that Boulder is scouting sites to build tiny houses for our growing population of vagrants and transients.  The first step should be to determine whether working and taxpaying citizens wish to build housing for those who choose to not work. Perhaps citizen/taxpayers would prefer to help hardworking but underpaid teachers, nurses, police and firefighters. We need a full debate, including a ballot proposition, before the tiny houses idea moves 1 inch further.
