12 people in a 2,000 square foot house?

From: Elliott & Susan Smith

We did this little exercise to see the implications of allowing 12 people in a 2,000 sq. ft. house. These are conservative estimates of square footage for rooms: 2 baths, 8×10=160; kitchen, 12×14=168; living/dining room, 24×26=624; hallways, 3×48=144; laundry/utility, 10×14=140. Total=1236. That leaves 764 sq.ft. for about seven 9×12 bedrooms, including closets & storage. At around 2 people per small bedroom in a 2,000 sq.ft. house, that seems completely unrealistic for modern living. How many city council members would like to live in those conditions?
