Joan Lavell: A more suitable spot for co-ops

I read with interest the City Council’s endorsement of major residential development near Boulder Junction. There was no mention of cooperatives. If this is a desirable housing alternative (which it probably is), why not plan appropriate cooperative units in that development including adequate parking; communal kitchens and living areas; and bedrooms for residents?

The location is accessible to many stores and a major transportation hub. Instead of violating existing zoning regulations and angering existing residents, why not create proper cooperate housing in an area designed for it?
