When asked to rate the “overall direction that Boulder is taking,” just 46 percent of respondents offered a positive response. Out of a total of 290 communities deeply comparable by the National Citizen Survey, that approval rating ranked 234th.
And when asked whether the Boulder City Council “implements policies that reflect the values” of citizens, just 36 percent of responses were positive.
In fact, on many topics related to governance, Boulder’s rate of positive response ranked in the bottom half of comparable places that also took the survey. These topics included confidence in Boulder government (48 percent positive), honesty of officials (56 percent positive), fair treatment of all residents (47 percent positive) and whether the city acts in its residents’ best interests (50 percent positive.)
