Boulder City Council’s new mantra is clearly “Build, baby, build.” Is this what you voted for, Boulder?
John Gerstle, the chair of the Boulder Planning Board was ousted in a 5-4 vote of the City Council. He served for just three years and tradition would hold that Mr. Gerstle, a lifelong Boulder resident and MIT graduate, would be granted another term, but he was apparently not pro-development enough for our current council, so they appointed two reliably pro-growth applicants instead via 5-4 votes. This is a terribly divisive and disrespectful move.
John Gerstle was exactly the kind of person we need on the Boulder Planning Board and I thank him for his years of service to our city. I am outraged by the shabby treatment and disrespect shown by the council majority to Mr. Gerstle.
Once upon a time Boulder valued “slow, managed growth,” but we have a strident new chant coming from council chambers these days.
